Nature Education packages add an unique learning element to all types of events. For more information or to customize packages for your event, please reach out to natureeducation@oakgov.com. 

General Nature Education packages, field trips and outreach programs are available by appointment year-round for a nominal fee to school and youth groups, preschoolers, homeschoolers, scouts, seniors, church organizations and more. Learn more by visiting our Nature Education webpages.

For organizations reserving Nature Education packages under the Recreation Assistance Partnership Program (RAPP), please submit the 2026 Nature Education RAPP Form. An Oakland County Parks staff member will reach out to you within three business days to book your requests. Applications are first-come, first-served, are subject to approval and do not guarantee a reservation.

Nature Table

The Nature Table is a walk-up conversational two-hour nature experience. It works best when used at another event or to supplement a program. It is a great addition to farmers markets, festivals, school field days, etc. Nature Tables have the option of an additional craft.

Topics to choose from:

  • Michigan Wildlife

    Chat with a naturalist about what nature lives in your backyard and in our state. Explore animal tracks, touch pelts and see other other biofacts up close.

  • Purely Michigan

    Learn about Michigan’s unique set of official symbols that represent our culture and history and highlight some of our states distinct characteristics.

  • Nature Needs You!

    From Shakespeare to the pet trade, explore how exotic plants and animals have come to be here, and the effect they have on the environment. Learn how you can slow the spread of invasive species and help local habitats.    

Nature Presentation

The Nature Presentation is a 45-minute class with a variety of topics to choose from. Each presentation includes an interactive talk with taxidermy, pelts and other natural history items. There is a 45-person limit per program. 

Topics include:

  • Nature Neighbors

    Your backyard and Oakland County Parks are full of different wildlife, large and small. Learn about what you might look for outside and what adaptations those animals have to help them survive.

  • Trailwise Summer Safety

    Summer safety matters! Find out how to beat the heat and stay safe while on the trail. Learn the principles of Leave No Trace and how to apply them to your next outdoor adventure, whether in your backyard, or in the wilds of Michigan.  

  • Focus on Fossils

    Dig into the world of past lives on earth. Learn how fossils are made, found and studied. Michigan fossils, such as Petoskey stones and mastodons, will be featured. Let the world of fossils make an impression on you.

Portable Planetarium

Enjoy a portable, inflatable planetarium that brings the wonder of the current night sky indoors as it is projected on the inside of the dome. Up to two consecutive shows are included in the RAPP Program.

  • Accommodates up to 30 people per showing
  • Presentations are 45 minutes long. A 15-minute change time is needed between programs
  • All groups require adult supervision, including when inside the dome
  • Intended for ages 6 and older
  • Requires a quiet, clean, dark indoor area with electricity that accommodates the 23’ (length) x 23’ (width) x 11’ (height) planetarium unit
