About Oakland Transit 

Oakland Transit is dedicated to ensuring safe, reliable and affordable public transportation services are available in Oakland County. In 2022, residents voted to approve the Oakland County Public Transportation Millage, a 10-year millage that supports and expands public transit services throughout the county. Since the approval of the millage, five local transit providers have been contracted to provide a variety of services including fixed route bus lines, on-demand community transit, and ADA paratransit.

Oakland County’s transit providers include the North Oakland Transportation Authority (NOTA), OPC Social & Activity Center, People’s Express (PEX), Suburban Mobility Authority for Regional Transportation (SMART), and Western Oakland Transportation Authority (WOTA). The combination of transit coverage from each of these providers ensures all Oakland County residents have access to public transportation services.  

In 2024, Oakland County’s transit providers completed 3,990,431 rides in the community. Residents utilize transit to reliably get to work, attend medical appointments and enjoy engaging community events thanks to the quality service of our providers.

Oakland County Transit Ad Hoc Committee 

The Oakland County Transit Ad Hoc Committee was formed on April 20, 2023, to ensure funds from the Oakland County Public Transportation Millage are efficiently and effectively utilized. Since its formation, the Transit Ad Hoc Committee has worked to expand transit services to cover 100% of Oakland County and has supported the growth of each transit provider as they expand their fleets and teams to accommodate the growing demand for transit services in the community.
