natural resourcesOakland County Parks is home to more than 1,200 acres of open water and adjacent wetland habitat that contribute to the headwaters of six rivers in southeast Michigan.

Freshwater staff, in partnership with state and local organizations and through dedicated public education, focus on watershed-based management and monitor stormwater and aquatic resources to address current and potential future impacts to water quality, aquatic species and stormwater to promote best management practices. Staff conduct annual surveys to identify and manage invasive aquatic plants, monitor water quality, assess fish and rare mussel populations, implement stormwater infrastructure and compliance and improve green stormwater infrastructure.
