Community Habitat Improvement Grant Program
Through the Community Habitat Improvement Projects (CHIPs) grant program, Oakland County Parks (OCP) provides Oakland County cities, villages or townships (CVTs) with much-need funds to tackle high-priority invasive species and natural restoration projects.
Together, OCP and CVTs work to establish healthy habitats for the environment, create beautiful spaces for residents and raise awareness about the benefits of using native plants in landscapes. CHIPs projects utilize a multi-pronged approach to address urgent invasive species concerns while planning for future improvements, all while maximizing local budgets and staff time.
OCP pays contractors directly for the services needed to bring a community’s vision from planning to reality. Three mini grants of up to $5,000 each are also available for research projects that enhance best natural resource management practices within Oakland County.
CHIPs grants should be viewed as a catalyst rather than a replacement for local funding as communities are encouraged to continue to build upon gained momentum using their own resources. Through this shared effort to caring for natural assets, we can restore ecosystems and champion change throughout Oakland County communities.
