Heritage Park
Heritage Park, located on the west side of Farmington Road between Ten and Eleven Mile roads, is a beautiful 211-acre park that attracts an estimated 750,000 visitors annually. For many years, the park has been well-loved by the Farmington Hills community, which enjoys its many amenities, including a splash pad, picnic shelter, playground, volleyball courts, archery range, the historic Spicer House and more. Programs, events and day camps are hosted at the nature center, amphitheater and art studio.
On Aug. 11, 2025, the Farmington Hills City Council unanimously approved an Interlocal Agreement that would allow Oakland County Parks (OCP) to operate and invest in the park, while the City of Farmington Hills maintains ownership of the property. Details of that agreement include OCP providing:
- An initial payment of $4 million to recognize prior investments made by the city for taxpayers in the park.
- Ongoing financial support for park capital needs, operations and other costs for a period of 30 years; and
- Increased services, programming and staff presence at the park.
Status: Preliminary planning and engagement
The transition will take place gradually, with expected full operational agreement beginning March 31, 2026, following public engagement sessions.
The City of Farmington Hills and OCP created an engagement plan to solicit feedback from the community and local stakeholders regarding their vision for the park and which park elements they see as priorities. Engagement opportunities included:
- An online survey promoted via e-marketing messages, social media posts, signage and printed materials distributed at high-traffic areas in the City of Farmington Hills.
- A direct mailing to Farmington Hills residents within a 10-minute drive of Heritage Park, informing them of the agreement, the online survey and the event dates.
