OAKLAND COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE

The Oakland County Sheriff's Office is the largest "full service" Sheriff's Office in the State of Michigan. With a current jurisdictional population of 1.2 million residents, the Sheriff's Office services over 343,000 of those residents through law enforcement contracts in 15 different communities and corrective services for nearly 1600 inmates. The coverage area also encompasses 450 inland lakes.

Sheriff Michael J. Bouchard oversees over 1,600 department employees and manages an annual budget of over $240 million.

The Oakland County Sheriff's Office is comprised of three main groups, the Corrections, Courts and Technology Group, and the Law Enforcement Services Group, as well as an Administrative Services Division.

SHERIFF'S OFFICE INFORMATION

Purpose

The Office of Sheriff is created by the Michigan Constitution. As a constitutional officer, the Sheriff must operate a county jail, serve and execute all civil writs and process as well as criminal process that are issued pursuant to rule, and produce and maintain records as prescribed by law. In addition, the Sheriff operates a Marine Safety Program (with the Department of Natural Resources), provides contracted law enforcement services, and miscellaneous other duties.
