Oakland County Parks is focused on environmental leadership, action and practice in the community. Staff is available as a resource for local governments and the public to advise in their areas of expertise and assist homeowners, municipal employees, non-profit organizations and educational institutions in implementation of best practices.

Nest Box Monitor Training

Monitor Nest Boxes and become a Citizen Scientist

Are you interested in monitoring nest boxes for science?  Oakland County Parks manages nest boxes for Eastern bluebird and other cavity nesting birds in seven parks. Join us at for an information session from 4:30-6:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 26 at Waterford Oaks Event Center to explore this unique opportunity.

Volunteers monitor and record observations as birds form nests, lay eggs, hatch chicks and fledge juvenile birds. Nests are tracked in NestWatch through Cornell Lab of Ornithology and used by scientists around the world.
