Why Oakland?

We are the biggest and best.

Wall Street gives the County a coveted AAA bond rating, the highest rating possible and an honor enjoyed by only 10 of America's other 3,043 counties.

Our Culture.

A strong sense of camaraderie thrives among our employees, driven in part by our exceptionally low turnover rate. Our team members feel valued and empowered, which fuels their commitment to delivering outstanding service to our residents. Our positive workplace culture is further supported by our robust employee engagement initiatives, OakFit Well-Being programs that promote personal health, as well as, our active Employee Resource Groups that foster inclusivity and community. Together, these efforts create a supportive environment where employees feel connected, motivated, and proud to be part of our organization.

Beautiful Campus.

Our County Campus offers a beautiful, walkable environment with meticulously landscaped grounds that invite employees to enjoy the outdoors. Campus also features a vibrant Farmers Market, adding to the community-focused atmosphere. Beyond the campus, Oakland County is home to a stunning parks system that includes 17 park locations spanning nearly 7,200 acres. These parks feature over 80 miles of scenic trails, campgrounds, dog parks, golf courses, aquatic centers, and nature education facilities, perfect for relaxation, recreation, and reconnecting with nature.

Commitment to Diversity.

At Oakland County, we believe that a diverse and inclusive workforce is essential to delivering exceptional public service. We are committed to creating a workplace where all individuals feel respected, valued, and empowered to contribute their unique perspectives and talents.

Our goal is to integrate diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) into every part of our county operations. This means actively identifying and addressing barriers, challenging inequities, and building systems that promote fairness and opportunity for all—especially for historically marginalized and underrepresented communities.

We hold ourselves accountable through continuous education, intentional policy-making, and data-driven evaluations to measure our progress and identify areas for growth. Together, we’re building a more inclusive future, one where everyone has the chance to thrive.
