Oakland Park’s project will create more than 13,200 square feet of wetlands with native plants to beautify a community space and effectively reduce pollutants by absorbing stormwater runoff.

  • Funding: $528,000
  • Grant administered through EGLE’s CWSRF and the American Rescue Plan
  • Maintained by: WRC
  • Construction Start Date: September 2025
  • Project Completion: August 2026

Project Goals

  • Improve water quality by filtering stormwater runoff through bioretention cells
  • Reduce pollutants from entering the Clinton River
  • Use native landscape to beautify the area and aid in stormwater management
  • Create a gathering space for the local community to enjoy

Why Native Plants?
Native plants play a crucial role in stormwater management by providing deep root systems that enhance soil stability, increase water infiltration, and reduce surface runoff. This not only helps prevent flooding but also improves water quality by filtering out pollutants before they enter our waterways.
