If you live in Farmington Hills, Pontiac, Commerce Township, Orchard Lake, Walled Lake, or Oxford (non-residential only), you can get a separate meter for outdoor water usage. Contact the municipality for a dual meter permit. Complete the dual meter application. You will be contacted to schedule an appointment to pick up the meter and make payment.

Most residential meters are located in basements. In homes without basements, the meter may be located in a well-insulated crawl space. If the building is on a slab foundation, the meter will most likely be in a utility closet or under a kitchen sink. Locate your hot water tank and follow the service lines to where service enters the home to help find your meter.

Water meters are almost never outside; however, in a few instances, some homes may have meters located in underground boxes in the yard.
