The 52^nd District Court, 3^rd Division offers a hybrid drug/alcohol court to defendants who qualify and wish to participate in an intensive probation program. The Mission of the 52^nd District Court, 3^rd Division Specialty Treatment Court is to serve our communities and improve public safety by focusing on drunk drivers and those with substance use disorders who are repeat offenders.  The program combines intensive court supervision with treatment to create a practical response to substance use disorders while assisting in reducing recidivism and minimizing jail time.  The program is designed to be an alternative to incarceration that focuses on creating positive life changes.

To qualify for the hybrid drug/alcohol program, participants must meet the following criteria:

• Defendant’s current offense is alcohol or drug related.
• Defendant has prior alcohol or drug related convictions.
• Defendant has no prior convictions of violent crimes as established by Federal guidelines and Michigan law.
• Defendant is a full-time resident within the jurisdiction of 52-3 District Court or as otherwise determined by the Court

In August of 2024, the 52^nd District Court, 3^rd Division created a Veteran’s Treatment Court with the assistance of the 52^nd District Court, 1^st Division. Veteran’s Treatment Court serves veterans by using drug court and mental health court principles. The goal of the program is to provide veterans with the services and treatment needed to reduce recidivism and minimize jail time.  The program provides individuals with substance abuse treatment services, relapse prevention services, and mental health treatment. The program also assists veterans connect with community resources to assist with things like housing.

To be considered for the Veterans Treatment Court Program, the participant must not have been dishonorably discharged from any branch of the military. The participant must provide a copy of their DD214 during a presentence investigation.

The 52nd District Court established a Mental Health Court Program in 2022 to successfully link those with a serious mental illness, serious emotional disturbance, or developmental disorder to appropriate treatment services while maintaining public safety and reducing recidivism. The program aims to minimize jail placement through the combination of therapeutic intervention and close court supervision.

To be considered for the Mental Health Court Program, an offender must meet the following criteria:

• Primary residence in Oakland County.
• No prior convictions for violent crimes as defined by federal guidelines and Michigan statute.
• Offer a plea of guilty or no contest on a misdemeanor case.
• Identified with a serious mental illness, serious emotional disturbance, or developmental disability as defined by MCL 330.1100 via a clinical assessment within the past two years.
