The Oakland County Workforce Development Board (WDB) includes representatives from the business community, community-based organizations, higher education, adult education/literacy, economic development, and vocational rehabilitation. Oakland County's Workforce Development Division/Oakland County Michigan Works! administers state and federally-funded workforce programs and services on behalf of Oakland County Executive David Coulter and the Oakland County Workforce Development Board.

Oakland County is committed to strengthening Michigan's economy by providing a wide range of business and talent services that help employers find skilled workers and job seekers find employment. Strong ties with economic and community development agencies, businesses and learning institutions, as well as other Michigan Works! Agencies in Southeast Michigan keep Oakland County at the forefront when addressing workforce development needs.

Oakland County Michigan Works! Career & Education Advisory Council (CEAC)

Oakland County Michigan Works! is one of sixteen geographic areas that the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity funds to provide workforce development services for job seekers, incumbent workers, employers, and youth across Oakland County. In partnership with employers, educators, economic developers, and community organizations, Oakland County Michigan Works! is committed to creating a qualified workforce that meets the current and future talent needs of Oakland County companies.

The Career and Educational Advisory Council (CEAC) was designed to bring together a collaborative partnership with local school districts, employers, postsecondary institutions, advocates, labor, and training centers to identify significant talent needs. The roles and responsibilities of the CEAC include:

  • Advise the Oakland County Workforce Development Board on the educational portion of the Local Plan;
  • Coordinate with other educational entities in guiding career development programs and career pathways, such as high schools, community colleges, career and technical education, prisoner reentry programs, corrections education, veterans' programs, and college access networks in support of the Oakland County Workforce Development Board's mission and strategy;
  • Assist the Oakland County Workforce Development Board with the development and implementation of career pathways;
  • Advise the Oakland County Workforce Development Board on a strategy that includes alignment of adult education programs and services; and
  • Create a process and criteria to identify eligible adult education providers to receive funds allocated under Section 107.
