Staffing is perhaps the greatest challenge facing childcare providers today. Recent data indicates there are more than 9,000 open positions for licensed childcare providers across the state.
One solution to this crisis is to hire and train these invaluable workers in-house. A registered apprenticeship program combines on-the-job training with classroom instruction. Apprentices earn as they learn, while childcare providers nurture loyal employees.
- At least $2,000 in funding support is available per apprentice, provided by the Early Childhood Investment Corporation and Caring for MI Future
- Upon successful completion of the program, apprentices earn a Childcare Development Associate (CDA) Certificate of Completion
- Funding can be used for new hires and/or current employees that transition into apprentice roles
- The retention rate of employees who complete a registered apprenticeship program is more than 90 percent
