Learn more about native plants, select some for your yard and garden
Oakland County Parks is hosting its annual Native Plant Event from 4-7 p.m. Friday, June 5 at the Oakland County Farmers Market. This year, participants will receive a tray they can fill by selecting plants of their choice from the assortment available. Oakland County Parks staff will be available to answer questions and help participants select the best plants for their space that will achieve their gardening goals. Whether an experienced gardener or just getting started, there is something for everyone.
New this year, the Native Plant Event is presented in partnership with John Ball Zoo HabitatHero. Register your garden and see your impact! Learn more: https://jbzoo.org/habitat-hero/.
Program Note:
If you did not preregister or you plan to bring additional attendees that are registering day-of the event, please be aware that this event is sold out. We welcome any day-of attendees that plan to enjoy the event and participate in learning more from tabling organizations, but we can't guarantee native plants for day-of registration. Day-of registration is $5 and those in attendance during the last half-hour of the event (after 6:30 p.m.) will be welcome to a plant tray if any remaining plants are available.
Details:
- Native plants are an excellent choice for any yard or garden because they require less water and maintenance, attract pollinators like bees and butterflies, and take less effort to grow since they naturally thrive in local conditions.
