From the automotive industry to Amazon, logistics professionals are more critical than ever, with supply chains and fulfillment companies delivering goods across the world in record volumes. 

Job opportunities in this field are booming, with a projected growth of four percent annual across the country through 2029, including Metro Detroit. Entry level wages: $15-$21 per hour. 

Oakland County Michigan Works!, in partnership with Oakland Community College and PepsiCo, are offering a certified logistics technician training program, free to eligible candidates.

​BUILDing Skills Summer Trade Camp & Apprenticeship Readiness Training


Are you interested in exploring a career in construction or carpentry?  We have an opportunity for young adults ages 14-24 to build their skills and get paid this summer.

The BUILDing Skills Summer Trade Camp, powered by the Carpenter's Union, is a six-week, hands-on training experience, working on a construction site, side-by-side next to skilled carpenters ready to share their skills and knowledge with you.  Participants earn $12 per hour.

This training program is available to residents of Wayne and Oakland counties, including citizens of Detroit.

Oakland NEXT: Help Desk Administrator

Complete a FREE certificate training program right from home

Certified help desk administrators, responsible for computer system troubleshooting and support, are in hot demand. In southeast Michigan, there are several thousand job postings annually, according to the Workforce Intelligence Network - 2,563 during the third quarter of 2020, alone. 

Eligible young adults can join their ranks through a partnership between Oakland County Michigan Works! and training provider MedCerts.

  • Must begin online classes by March 31, 2021


  • $14.14 to $21.88 per hour


  • $1,000 incentive for completing program

Qualified participants receive free tuition, with the opportunity to earn a certification. A free laptop computer is provided to each program participant, as well. In addition to obtaining a certification, participants can access financial management and career readiness courses online.

There are financial incentives for youth that complete all requirements. Job search assistance after completion of the program also is available.
