A Requirement for Receiving Unemployment Insurance Benefits

The State of Michigan requires all people receiving unemployment insurance benefits to be actively seeking full-time work.  The first step in qualifying for benefits is to register for work through a Michigan Works! agency within ten days of filing an unemployment claim.
 
Oakland County residents can do this either in-person or virtually at one of our six service centers, but a scheduled appointment is highly encouraged.

 Create Profile

Visit MiTalent.org to create a profile

  • Upload your resume (required)
  • Meet with staff from a Michigan Works! Service Center, either in-person or virtually
  • Create Profile
In-Person Registration

In-Person Registration

  • Offered Monday through Friday, 8:00 am – 3:30 pm
  • Bring your Driver’s License, Passport, or State ID for proof of identity
Virtual Registration

Virtual Registration

  • Visual identification is required – must have a webcam
  • Required documentation:
    • Registration Form
    • Copy of resume from Pure Michigan Talent Connect

Staff will review submissions and provide a Zoom link to participate in a virtual registration session — you must attend this meeting to satisfy all requirements.
