Increasing use of technology has impacted many employers throughout Oakland County, most notably in the retail, financial services and manufacturing sectors. This has forced them to make adjustments to their workforce, as required skill sets have changed.
If you have been laid off from your job in one of these industries, funding is available through Oakland County Michigan Works! for training, career and supportive services for eligible participants.

Eligible participants will receive funding of up to $4,000 for a variety of training opportunities:
- Classroom training
- Short-term, in-demand training
- On-the-job training
- Pre-apprenticeship training
- Registered apprenticeships
- Customized training
To qualify for funding, participants must prove they have been laid off from a job in finance, manufacturing, or retail. Contact your local service center for more details.
In addition to connecting job seekers with training opportunities, Oakland County Michigan Works! continues to provide a broad range of services, such as resume writing, job search strategies, interview preparation and career coaching. Service centers are closed to the public but virtual appointments are available now.
