Captain Timmy C. Atkins is the
Commander of the Sheriff’s Office Pontiac Substation. Captain Atkins was hired
by the Sheriff’s Office as a Deputy in 1987. He was promoted to the rank of
Sergeant in 1996, Lieutenant in 2001, and to his current position of Captain in
2008. In his current role, he is responsible for the day-to-day operations of
the Pontiac Substation.
Captain Atkins has previously
worked in Corrections, Road Patrol, the Auto Theft Unit, the Detective Bureau,
Special Investigations, and the Emergency Response and Preparedness Division.
He is the former Commander of SWAT and was a member of the team for over 20
He graduated from the Texas
Department of Corrections Academy in 1984 and the Macomb Community College
Basic Police Academy in 1990. Captain Atkins obtained his Associate Degree from
Columbia Southern University in Criminal Justice in 2014. He graduated from the F.B.I. National Academy
– Session 215 in 2003. He has received
two Sheriff’s Distinguished Unit Citation Awards, a Commendation Award, and was
named Command Officer of the Year in 2012.
Captain Atkins is the Chairman of
the Deputies For Kids non-profit organization. He is also a Board Member for
the Sheriff’s Office PAL Program.
