PONTIAC SUBSTATION CAPTAIN GARY MILLER
Captain Gary D. Miller is the Commander of the Sheriff’s Office Pontiac Substation. Captain Miller was hired by the Sheriff’s Office as a Deputy in 1986. He was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 1996, Lieutenant in 2011, and to his current position of Captain in 2015. In his current role, he is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Pontiac Substation.
Captain Miller has previously worked in Corrections, Road Patrol, the Narcotic Enforcement Team, Special Investigations, and led the Pontiac Detective Bureau.
He has specialized training in Cold Case Homicide Investigations from the U.S. Naval Academy, Homicide Investigation Techniques and Use of Deadly Force Investigations from the Miami Dade Police Department, Internal Affairs Legal and Operational Issues from IACP, Medicolegal Investigation of Death from Wayne State University, and Criminal Interviews and Interrogations from Oakland Community College. Captain Miller has received over twenty awards from the Sheriff’s Office for his service and received Investigator of the Year in 2007 from the International Association of Arson Investigators.
Captain Miller is the Co-Founder of the Deputies For Kids non-profit organization. He is also a Board Member for the Sheriff’s Office PAL Program.
