Major Charles Snarey is the Commander of the Corrections & Court Services Division of the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office.
As Commander, Major Snarey is responsible for overseeing the operations at the Main Jail/Annex Facility, East Annex Facility and Court Services.
Major Snarey was hired by the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office in 1974 after attending Central Michigan University. He began his career as a Corrections Deputy I and was promoted to a Corrections Deputy II in 1978. Major Snarey was promoted to Sergeant of Corrections in January of 1986, Lieutenant in February of 1991, Captain in October of 2000 and to his current position of Major in January of 2007.
During his tenure at the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, Major Snarey has worked in all areas of the Corrective Services and Satellite Divisions, including the Main Jail, Main Jail Annex, Circuit Court, Work Release Facility, Boot Camp, Trusty Camp, and the Frank Greenan Detention Facility.
Major Snarey has been the recipient of numerous recognitions, including the Sheriff’s Special Commendation, Commendation Citation, Sheriff’s Distinguished Service Award, Disaster Bar Award, Sheriff’s Distinguished Unit Citation, and was named Command Officer of the Year in 2005. He served on the Main Jail Annex Transition Team in 1989, was instrumental in the opening of the Frank Greenan Detention Facility, and served on the Selection Committee for the Work Release Building.
