Captain Thomas Vida, Jr. is the Commander of the Corrective Services Division of the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office. Captain Vida was hired by the Sheriff’s Office as a Deputy in 1999. He was promoted to Sergeant in 2008, Lieutenant in 2015, Executive Lieutenant in 2020 and to his current position of Captain in March of 2021. In his current role, he is responsible for overseeing the Main Jail / Annex facility.
Captain Vida has worked in Patrol Services where he was assigned to the Orion Township Substation as a road patrol and school liaison deputy. During his assignments in Corrections, he has worked and supervised all operational areas and served as the Commander of the Cell Extraction Team.
Captain Vida has a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology with a Concentration in Criminal Justice. Additionally, he attended the National Jail Leadership Command Academy and he is a Certified Jail Manager. Captain Vida has received many awards, including the Command Officer of the Year, Sheriff's Distinguished Service Citation, Sheriff's Distinguished Unit Citation and a Lifesaving Citation.
