Captain Dale R. Miller is the Commander of the Patrol Services Division. Captain Miller was hired by the Sheriff’s Office as a Deputy in 1978. He was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 1990, Lieutenant in 2001, and to his current position of Captain in 2015. In his current role, he is responsible for overseeing Patrol Services for the 15 contracted communities that the Sheriff’s Office serves. Additionally, Captain Miller is responsible for the 416 Traffic Unit, Aviation Unit, Motor Unit, Crash Reconstruction Unit, Marine Unit, Parks Unit, Mounted Unit, Complex Patrol, Honor Guard, K-9 Unit, Alcohol Enforcement Team, Reserve Deputies, and Cadets.
Captain Miller has previously worked in Corrections, Road Patrol, the Detective Bureau, and Special Investigations. He has been Commander of the Oakland Township and Springfield Township Substations and as a lieutenant he oversaw the Fugitive Apprehension Team, Auto Theft Unit, Friend of the Court Unit, and Warrants Unit for the Investigative and Forensic Sciences Division. He has served as a Member and Joint Supervisor of the Oakland County Child Killer Task Force.
He received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from Northern Michigan University in 1977. Captain Miller has received many awards including four Sheriff’s Distinguished Unit Citations, four Commendation Citations, and in 2015, he received the Command Officer of the Year Award.
