Independence Oaks

Construction Information:

The Independence Oaks County Park road paving project will begin July 5 with road swale and culvert replacement work. All park roads, trails, parking lots and facilities will remain open during construction. Intermittent lane closures are scheduled to start July 18.

Wint Nature Center's parking lot will remain open throughout the project, but half of the parking lot will be closed July 18-29. Access to walkway bridge will remain open during this time.

Additional work is set to be completed in August. Future announcements will be posted as they become available.


Inside|Out art installation program

Independence Oaks County Park is part of the Detroit Institute of Arts Inside|Out art installation program that brings high-quality reproductions of famous masterpieces from its collection to local communities in beautiful outdoor settings. 

Located outside Wint Nature Center, along the safety path leading to the park entrance and near the floating dock by Twin Chimneys are the artworks Lovers on a Balcony During Monsoon by Unknown Artist; View of Le Crotoy from Upstream by Seurat, Georges; and Dancers in the Green Room by Edgar Degas. View the trail map for specific information. Stop by and check them out on your next visit!

Other Detroit Institute of Arts Inside|Out artwork is located at Addison Oaks County Park, Catalpa Oaks County Park and Red Oaks Nature Center.

Archery hunting for white-tailed deer (with some limitations) is allowed in this park, hunting locations and rules are listed in the individual park archery maps that can be found here.  No parks allow firearm hunting.
