Pontiac, Michigan -- Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson's Health Division announces that the Healthy Pontiac, We Can! Coalition has partnered with Oakland Livingston Human Service Agency (OLHSA) to bring a third produce market to Pontiac. Located at 196 Cesar Chavez Ave., the market sells fresh fruits and vegetables at low cost every Tuesday from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.
This market is a part of Oakland County's strategy to improve the quality of life of our residents through healthier lifestyles," said Kathy Forzley, Oakland County Health Division manager/health officer. "Consuming a diet high in fruits and vegetables decreases the risk of many chronic diseases, including heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure, diabetes and some cancers."
The OLHSA produce market joins two existing produce markets under the Healthy Pontiac, We Can! Coalition: one at St. John’s United Methodist Church, 620 University Dr., open Fridays 3-6 p.m.; and the other at All Saints Episcopal Church, 171 West Pike St., open Saturdays 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
These markets will also have free samples and demonstrations of simple meals Pontiac residents can make with their fresh produce selections. Those interested in attending the demonstrations can visit facebook.com/healthyPontiac.mi or oakgov.com/health for a complete schedule.
