To observe an autopsy, you must be 18 or older.
high school students are permitted to view autopsies. Law enforcement
officers, fireman, physicians, nurses, paramedics and emergency medical
technicians may set up observations and tours on a case by case through
the administrator, Casimir Miarka, who can be contacted at 248-858-4045.
Normal turnaround time for an autopsy report is 6-8 weeks after the
autopsy is performed. Any request for a copy of an autopsy report made
before the completion of the autopsy report will be denied, “Report Not
Complete”. Next of Kin of a deceased can call and request a copy of the
report be sent to them when completed. All other requests need to be
sent through FOIA (Freedom of Information Act). Visit the FOIA Request Center to access the public record portal in order to submit a FOIA request online.
The autopsy report is considered both the autopsy findings and the
toxicology report. Partial reports will not be released. Any request
made before both parts are completed will be denied, “Report Not
Complete”. Usual minimum turnaround time for toxicology results is 30
