All positions are grouped into classifications so that all positions requiring the same general type of work at the same general level have the same classification and opportunity for fairness.
An employee progresses within the job classification through a series of salary steps until reaching the maximum salary for that classification. The rate at which a person progresses through the salary steps depends upon length of service and job performance.
In addition, opportunities for promotion to higher classifications are made available to County employees having successfully completed their six-month probationary period. Each promotion represents personal growth, higher pay and greater participation in governmental functions
