A critical incident is any situation faced by individuals that causes them to experience unusually strong emotional reactions which have the potential to interfere with their ability to function either at the scene or later.
The purpose of the Oakland County Critical Incident Response Team is to accelerate the recovery of the individuals, who are experiencing normal reactions to abnormal events. Critical Incident Stress Debriefing (CISD) is a simple and effective method to help individuals cope with their experiences, to promote the continuation of productive careers and encourage healthy behaviors.
The Oakland County Critical Incident Response Team is a cooperative effort of trained individuals from emergency service personnel and human service organizations to provide CISD in Oakland County. When requested and when available, the Oakland County Crisis Response Team may offer assistance outside of Oakland County.
The Oakland County Critical Incident Response Team can provide the following services:
1. CRITICAL INCIDENT STRESS DEBRIEFING TEAMS
Team members will provide an educationally focused group process to an affected group of emergency response personnel or non-emergency personnel. The team can provide support on the scene or after a traumatic event.
2. COMMUNITY BASED INTERVENTION
Team member will provide an educationally focused group process to a group of non-emergency personnel affected by a critical incident which they did not witness but which has had sufficient emotional power to overcome their usual coping abilities. The team can provide support on the scene or after the incident.
