Mr. Murphy was promoted to the position of Manager of Facilities Maintenance & Operations in May of 2015. He is responsible for Administration, Building Safety, Custodial, Grounds, Heating Plant and Maintenance Units. Mr. Murphy's goals are to ensure that the County Facilities, grounds and utility systems are secure, in a reasonable state and that a suitable working environment is maintained for Oakland County government to effectively conduct business.
After receiving his Bachelors of Science degree from Eastern Michigan University in Facilities Management concentrating in Energy management in 1993 he was hired as the Midwest Regional Energy coordinator for Kmart International Corporation and after a short period of time he was promoted to National Utilities supervisor. In 1999, Mr. Murphy was offered and accepted a position to join the Oakland County team as a Facilities Engineer, where he brought his expertise in utility budgets and energy procurement. As a Facilities Engineer Mr. Murphy worked on many complex building and environmental projects as well as implementing progressive energy procurement and energy management strategies. In 2005 he was promoted to Facilities Specialist at which time he closely worked with the management team in developing the Counties energy policy.
