The Fire & Ice Festival in Rochester is one of the premier winter events in Michigan, offering a host of activities such as ice skating, snowshoeing, a tubing hill and dog sled rides, all at a family friendly price – FREE.
Set for Jan. 18-20, Fire & Ice is a celebration of winter. A host of sponsors, including presenting sponsor Vibe Credit Union, make it possible for residents and visitors alike to enjoy the best of winter. Main Street in downtown Rochester is aglow with multicolored lights of the Big, Bright Light Show; cartoon-themed ice carvings; a three-flume tube sledding hill is constructed especially for the event as is a cross-country skiing course and ice skating rink.
A collegiate ice carving competition is held Jan. 20, with students from area culinary schools crafting incredible sculptures from solid blocks of ice. Food trucks and the TasteFest & Beer Tent are popular features and plentiful firepits dot the area to keep toes and hands warm. Breath-taking fireworks light the night sky on Friday and Saturday night of the festival.
And for those hearty soles (pun intended) interested in getting a winter workout, The Brooksie Way's Chill at the Mills 5k race attracts hundreds of runners and walkers to traverse the streets of Rochester and enjoy the beauty of the Paint Creek.
If you're looking for winter fun, the 2019 Fire & Ice Festival is your best bet. The event is brought to you by Oakland County, Downtown Rochester, the City of Rochester and Oakland County Parks.
