Chris Ward serves as Oakland County Deputy Executive.
Prior to his appointment, he was the chief of staff to the Oakland County Board of Commissioners since 2016, using nearly three decades of public service experience at the local, county and state level to help commissioners navigate both public policy issues and the county’s $909 million budget.
He also has served as the deputy Oakland County Clerk from 2009-16 and was a state Representative for six years, representing portions of Livingston and west Oakland counties from 2003-08 and serving in leadership during his tenure and gaining expertise in elections, health policy and higher education.
He was one of the youngest people elected to public office when he won a seat on the Brighton Township board of trustees in 1992.
In his new county role, Ward will focus on strategic policy initiatives and will serve as the liaison to the board of commissioners and other countywide elected officials. He also will oversee state and federal policy development.
Ward lives in Waterford Township and is a graduate of Cleary University.
