Hilarie Chambers serves as the Oakland County Chief Deputy Executive. She oversees Emergency Management and Homeland Security, Health and Human Services and Public Services.
Prior to her appointment Chambers served as chief of staff for Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson helping her transition to office in 2019. As the top appointed official for the Department of State she oversaw $3 billion department including Department of Motor Vehicle services and the Bureau of Elections.
Chambers was the chief of staff for Congressman Sander Levin, overseeing his Washington and Michigan offices for over 25 years. In this role, she oversaw strategic development, community relations and all projects and initiatives undertaken by the office. She provided leadership to the Ways and Means committee during Rep. Levin's tenure as Chair and Ranking Democrat. She has experience in policy including trade, tax reform, health care, unemployment insurance, workforce development and anti-drug issues.
Her experience also includes time in the nonprofit sector as executive director of Reading Works which focuses on adult literacy and workforce development. She founded a non-profit to provide free ballet classes to girls at the Hazel Park Recreation Center.
Chambers lives in Pleasant Ridge with her daughter who is a student at the University of Michigan.
