About the program
Oakland County is excited to offer a brand new, free grocery delivery opportunity for older adults throughout the county.
As COVID-19 numbers increase heading into the winter, and in an effort to help older adults still access the everyday items they need without having to expose themselves to risk unnecessarily, Oakland County partnered with Shipt to provide a one-year membership for unlimited, same-day delivery from a variety of local stores.
Shipt is a service that shops for you and then safely delivers your groceries and household essentials direct to your door. This can include refrigerated foods, pet supplies, or simple household essentials that you would normally find at a local grocery store.
This annual membership is being offered free of charge to Oakland County senior residents who are aged 60 or older and offers unlimited, same-day grocery delivery. Please note that you must pay for the items that you order, but delivery will be free of charge with this membership. Free Shipt memberships will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last.
Apply for the Shipt membership online, but if you need assistance call the Oakland County Help Hotline at (248) 858-1000 Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. Please note that you will need an email address to use the Shipt membership. Please be aware that at peak times, you may need to leave a message at the HELP line, and you will receive a return call, possibly from a “blocked” or “unknown” number.
After you sign up, you will receive a confirmation email from Oakland County, Michigan that will have your unique redemption code in it. You will also receive a hard copy of your redemption code in the USPS within 7 days, but you do not need to wait for the hard copy to redeem your code. We recommend redeeming it as soon as you receive your confirmation email.

What is Shipt?
Shipt is an online service (via website or app on your phone/tablet) that provides delivery for groceries, pet supplies, and household essentials from local stores. They use a community of reliable and safe “shoppers” who will take your order and do the shopping for you then deliver it safely to your doorstep.
Oakland County is excited to give seniors (age 60+ and reside in Oakland County) these free one-year memberships for unlimited, same-day delivery. This offer is first-come, first-served while supplies last.
What is included?
This free one-year Shipt membership includes unlimited free delivery from participating stores for one year from the date of code redemption (a.k.a. date of subscription). This entitles you to free delivery for orders over $35 or a $7 delivery fee added to the order total if it is less than $35.
You are responsible for providing Shipt with the credit card information to process payment for your orders, as well as taxes and optional gratuities.
The membership expires one year from the date you redeem the code and it will NOT automatically renew.
How do I sign up?

I do not have computer access. Am I able to use Shipt?
Absolutely! Although the account must be in your name and the address for delivery must be in Oakland County, any family member that you trust can help you sign up for and manage your Shipt account, arrange orders, and schedule deliveries.
I applied…now what?
After you sign up online/via phone, you will receive a confirmation email from OakApps - Do Not Reply (firstname.lastname@example.org) with the subject line Oakland Together Grocery Delivery for Older Adults that will have your unique redemption code in it. You will also receive a hard copy of your redemption code in the USPS within 7 days, but you do NOT need to wait for the hard copy to redeem your code.
We recommend redeeming your code as soon as you receive your confirmation email as the deadline for the code to be used by is December 20, 2020.
The code will expire after December 20, and you will not be able to redeem it after that date.
I cannot find/did not receive my code…
The first thing to do is to check your email inbox. If you do not see the email from OakApps - Do Not Reply (email@example.com) with the subject line Oakland Together Grocery Delivery for Older Adults, be sure to check in the spam/junk folder of your email account. Sometimes emails end up there by mistake. If you still cannot find your email, please call the Oakland County HELP line at (248) 858-1000, Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. and they will assist you.
Why do I need to redeem my code by December 20, 2020?
Your code needs to be redeemed and your account created by end of the day on December 20. The codes have an expiration date due to the deadlines for CARES Act funding, with which the County has made this program available.
How do I create my Shipt account?

Does this membership automatically renew?
No. This free membership is only good for one year from the date that you redeem the code. The Shipt membership will NOT automatically renew.
How do I pay for my items?
You pay Shipt for all of your orders. Shipt accepts all major US credit and debit cards, including reloadable gift cards. In order to be used through Shipt, these cards must have a three-digit CVC code, which is usually located on the back of the card.
Do I need to leave a tip for my Shipt shopper?
There is no requirement to leave a gratuity, but it is recommended (10-20% of your order is the standard). Your Shipt shopper works diligently to make sure that you get all your products, the best produce, etc. so a small tip is a nice way to show your appreciation.
Does the Shipt shopper come inside my home?
No. Shipt shoppers are not able to help you bring your order inside. The Shipt shopper does not come into your home. They will leave your order at the designated location outside (usually a front door/porch).
Why is my Shipt shopper calling me?
Your Shipt shopper may call you throughout the shopping experience so that they can best accommodate your preferences. For instance, if the brand of toilet paper that you ordered is not available, they may call to ask you which you would like to substitute.
