Probate Court

Please be advised that the Oakland County Probate Court Records prior to 1971, have been moved to the Archives of Michigan.  For Information or to obtain copies of the Records, please contact:  GOVARCHIVES@MICHIGAN.COM or at (517) 335-2576

The Oakland County Probate Court accepts filings in-person at the Probate Court Clerk's Office, by mail, or by fax. The fax number is (248) 452-2016. The filing counter is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. For same day processing, you will need to be in line no later than 3:30 p.m.  The Probate Court does not schedule appointments.

Any filing that requires a fee must be paid at the time of filing. Filings are not accepted by email. If you live in the Tri-County area (Oakland, Wayne, and Macomb Counties) and you are required to file Annual Accounts, you must file them in person at the Probate Court counter.

Your hearing may be held either in-person or remotely, depending on the matter and the assigned judge.  Please check your Notice of Hearing.  If the hearing is not going to be held at the courthouse, you will receive the assigned judge's remote hearing information, along with the remote notice of hearing.  You can also visit your assigned Judge's protocol on this website to obtain his/her chamber's remote hearing information.

To promote the timely filing and processing of documents, if your pleading has more than 50 pages, the Oakland County Probate Court would prefer the document not be faxed and instead, be hand-delivered or sent to the court via regular mail.
