Criminal Division

Effective immediately, 52-1 District Court will accept appearances only by fax or email.  All other pleadings must be mailed or delivered to 48150 Grand River Ave, Novi MI 48374

The 52-1 Criminal Division is responsible for processing paperwork filed by the police departments, state law and local ordinance prosecutors. Cases generally involve misdemeanor offenses, both traffic and non-traffic. In addition, this division is responsible for processing felony offenses for which the maximum penalty exceeds one year in jail. These offenses are authorized only by the county prosecutor and must be scheduled for preliminary examination.

The preliminary examination would decide if there is enough evidence to support that the defendant committed the offense, in which case, the matter would be transferred to Circuit Court for trial. The Criminal Division is also responsible for typing and executing Orders of the Court as delivered in the courtroom. Additionally, clerks in the Criminal Division are responsible for insuring compliance with the Court's orders on unsupervised probation cases.
