A different form of alcohol monitoring for defendant’s who may not have a vehicle can use a portable alcohol monitoring device. The device is portable and simple to use. The defendant picks it up at a local service center, takes it home, plugs it into a wall outlet, and blows into the device when a test is requested. Test times are programmable and prescheduled; the unit can also accept an unscheduled test any time the user desires to take one. The defendant brings the device into the service center for data downloads, as determined by your probation officer.

Certain offenses require the defendant to only operate a motor vehicle that is equipped with a Camera Ignition Interlock Device. In order to start and successfully operate a motor vehicle the defendant will be required to provide a breathing sample that will detect the absence of alcohol. At certain times the device will require the client to provide a similar breathing sample while the vehicle is in motion to verify the absence of alcohol.
