The Adoption Services Unit is responsible for the Oakland County Annual Celebration of Michigan Adoption Day program. Held in conjunction with the State of Michigan and the National Adoption Day organization, the annual adoption day program takes place on the Tuesday prior to Thanksgiving each year. More than 200 adoptions have been finalized on this day since the inception of this annual event in 2003. This program is held simultaneously with other courts throughout the State of Michigan and across the United States highlighting the importance of adoption and the needs of children in foster care.
In connection with this event, the Family Division judges present the Arthur Eugene Moore Champion of Children Award and the Sandra Silver Advocate for Children Award to recipients whose contributions have significantly and positively influenced the lives of children in Oakland County.
