Property Fraud


Due to the Governor's order, our office is closed to the public and all in office services, including phone calls, have been suspended through April 10th except for emergency matters. We are currently Indexed through March 18, 2020. You may go to Super Index to search property records for free. We are still processing E-Recordings. Mail will not be processed until after we return to the office.  If you have an emergency regarding a Sheriff's Deed Redemption only, you may call either: 248-897-2711 or 248-897-2728.

Property recording fees are a flat fee of $30.00 per document, no matter how many pages.

Warranty Deeds and Deeds with Consideration amounts over $100.00 are subject to both County and State transfer tax.

  • County transfer tax is computed at the rate of $1.10 per $1000.00.
  • State transfer tax is computed at the rate of $7.50 per $1000.00. 

Warranty Deeds and Land Contracts must be certified by the Oakland County Treasurers Office prior to being submitted for recording in our Office for a fee of $5.00.

The fees to file UCC's are $45.00

Documents may be mailed in for recording. All fees must be paid at the time of recording. Checks are to be made payable to Oakland County Register of Deeds. After recording, the documents will be returned by mail after Indexing unless otherwise specified on the document.

Check Fraudulent Claims Against Homeowners

The Oakland County Clerk/Register of Deeds Office, in conjunction with US Land Records is pleased to provide this FREE service to homeowners.

Fraud check is a free search designed to help individuals verify their own personal land record data in order to fight fraud.  It allows homeowners to see whether any unauthorized documents have been recorded against their property in the Oakland County Register of Deeds Office. Fraud check is designed to fight deed and mortgage fraud by allowing you to verify any suspicious documents recorded after you have recorded your deed or mortgage. You may also contact the Register of Deeds office to verify if your property is in jeopardy.

Using the Service

  • Go to US Land Records to register.
  • Fill in your last and first name and select Search.
  • Results will provide any documented information recorded against your name in the Oakland County Register of Deeds Office.  Please note: This service does not include images of the recorded documents.
