COVID-19 Information

To reduce the spread of Coronavirus and to protect the safety of the public and staff, the Oakland County Clerks Office is closed to the public, except by appointment only. We strongly encourage you to utilize our online or by mail options before considering an in-person appointment. Please note, appointments are limited. See below for options in performing each service and read the corresponding web page carefully on how to proceed:

Appointments/Notice to callers - updated 6/16/2020

  • We are experiencing high call volumes. If you cannot reach an agent, please be patient and continue to call. You will not be able to leave a message. Phones are being answered between 9:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
  • To schedule an appointment and for all questions for the Vital Records Office please call 248-858-0571. Appointments are limited. Please reserve in-person transactions for urgent matters only.

Attention Notary Publics: Per Executive Order 2020-131, notary commissions that expire between March 1, 2020 and July 31, 2020 are extended until July 31, 2020. Per the Office of the Great Seal, when acting as a notary, cross off your expiration date, hand write the new expiration date, initial and add the directive. Example, "expires 7/31/2020, per EO 2020-131". (Be sure to initial your changes.)

Marriage License applications are available through the Oakland County Clerk's Office.  You must apply in person at the Vital Records office or online. If one person is coming to the office to apply, they must have documentation for both parties. The Marriage Information Sheet Includes all information necessary to complete the application. 

Please Note: The Marriage Information Sheet is not the application for a marriage license.

The following is required:

Once you apply in person or online and have met the above requirements, bring your confirmation number (given at the end of online application), valid identification, social security numbers and birth certificates (or passports) for both parties to our office. 

The marriage license becomes valid on the third day following application and it must be picked up in person at our office.  Both parties do not have to be present to pick up the marriage license, however, the person coming to the office must provide photocopies (front and back) of all required ID for the other party.

A Marriage License is not available for pick-up on weekends or holidays. 
Apply on Monday; pick up on or after Thursday.
Apply on Tuesday; pick up on or after Friday.
Apply on Wednesday; pick up on or after Monday.
Apply on Thursday; pick up on or after Monday.
Apply on Friday; pick up on or after Monday.
Apply on Saturday (online only); pick up on or after Tuesday.
Apply on Sunday (online only); pick up on or after Wednesday.
