BOARD HONORS DEPARTING COMMISSIONERS GOSSELIN AND SCOTT FOR THEIR PUBLIC SERVICE
On Thursday, December 8, 2016, the Board honored departing Commissioners Robert Gosselin and John A. Scott for their years of public service. Commissioner Scott, a Republican representing the 5th District, has served on the Board since January 2003. Commissioner Gosselin, a Republican representing the 11th District, has served on the Board since January 2007. Board Vice Chairman Michael Spisz shared remarks about their backgrounds and service as Oakland County Commissioners. Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson attended the ceremony and thanked both honorees for their work on behalf of the County.

PHIL BERTOLINI HONORED FOR MICHIGAN IT LEADER OF THE YEAR AWARD

On Wednesday, October 26, 2016, Oakland County Commissioner Shelley Goodman Taub presented Phil Bertolini, CIO/Deputy County Executive, with a proclamation from the entire Board recognizing him for receiving the Michigan IT Leader of the Year award at the Michigan Digital Government Summit. Oakland County is consistently ranked among the most digitally advanced counties in the country as a result of his leadership and innovation.

BOARD PRESENTS PROCLAMATION TO RICHARD TILLMAN FOR DECADES OF POLICE SERVICE

On Thursday, October 6, 2016, Oakland County Commissioner Bill Dwyer, a former police chief, presented Richard Tillman with a proclamation from the entire Board recognizing Tillman's more than 60 years of law enforcement service and wishing him all the best in his retirement.

​On Wednesday, August 31, 2016, Oakland County Board Chairman Michael J. Gingell presented a proclamation to Robert Jones, AT&T Corporation’s Director of  External Affairs, in recognition of his company’s support and financial contributions to various Oakland County charities and non-profit organizations.  The outreach efforts supported by AT&T have significantly benefitted communities throughout the county.

STATE REPRESENTATIVE KATHY CRAWFORD HONORED AS 2016 NACPRO PUBLIC OFFICIAL OF THE YEAR

State Representative Kathy Crawford was honored at the August 18, 2016 board meeting for being selected as the 2016 National Association of County Parks & Recreation Officials (NACPRO) Public Official of the Year.  The Board joined with the Oakland County Parks & Recreation Commission to present Representative Crawford with a proclamation recognizing her award and thanking her for her tireless efforts on behalf of parks and recreation.

OAKLAND COUNTY BOARD CHAIRMAN MICHAEL J. GINGELL KEYNOTE SPEAKER AT OAKLAND HOPE EVENT

On August 3, 2016, Oakland County Board Chairman Michael J. Gingell, Vice Chairman Michael Spisz and Commissioner Shelley Goodman Taub attended the Oakland HOPE "Eat, Drink and Be Giving" event.  Oakland County Chairman Michael Gingell was a keynote speaker at the event that brought local, state and community leaders together as well as members of the business community to celebrate this new volunteer human services organization. Oakland HOPE is a non-profit that will provide to all qualified families in the county with free food and other services through its client choice pantry, human services and a thrift store.  For more information, go to www.oaklandhope.org or call 248-783-6547. CEO & PRESIDENT OF HAVEN BETH MORRISON HONORED FOR YEARS OF SERVICE AND CONTRIBUTIONS

At the July 20, 2016 board meeting, Commissioners honored Beth Morrison, CEO & President of HAVEN, for her years of service and remarkable contributions to the organization and the community.  She led HAVEN for more than a decade and worked to combat domestic and sexual violence against women and children for 30 years.  The Board wishes her the best in her retirement.

2016 NATIONAL SAFETY MONTH & GUN SAFETY AWARENESS DAY (JUNE 10TH)

On June 7, 2016, the Oakland County Board of Commissioners held a Gun Safety news conference in honor of June as National Safety Month and to announce June 10th as Gun Safety Awareness Day in Oakland County.  Gun locks, courtesy of the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) Project ChildSafe program, were given to local law enforcement partners to distribute to the public free of charge.  Oakland County Sheriff Michael J. Bouchard also introduced the Lock-It-Up-Oakland public safety initiative, which includes the opportunity for a discount on purchasing a gun safe from Dunham's.  For more information and photos of the event, please click here.

MOJO IN THE MORNING RECORDS GUN SAFETY PSA FOR THE BOARD

On June 2, 2016, Mojo of Mojo in the Morning (95.5 FM) recorded a new PSA to raise awareness about the importance of securely storing firearms in safes and with trigger locks, and to introduce the new Lock-It-Up-Oakland initiative.

On May 12, 2016, Commissioner Shelley Goodman Taub joined The Community House in Birmingham to honor local residents age 90 years and older at the annual "90 & Beyond" celebration.  Commissioner Taub addressed attendees and presented a proclamation to William Seklar, President & CEO of The Community House, which congratulated honorees and recognized The Community House for their efforts in putting together a very special event.

YOUTH IN GOVERNMENT DAY

LOCAL SYNCHRONIZED SKATING TEAM PLACES THIRD

February 29, 2016

The Creative Edge Synchronized Skating Team based in Waterford recently won the Bronze Medal in the Intermediate Division at the U.S. Figure Skating Sectional Championships in Portland, Oregon. Creative Edge placed third out of twenty-two teams in the Midwestern Section, advancing them to the U.S. Synchronized Skating National Championships. Creative Edge was the only intermediate synchronized skating team from the State of Michigan to compete at the national competition. The team was honored at the Lakeland Ice Arena in Waterford on February 29th.

Oakland County Commissioner Shelley Goodman Taub honored John Almstadt, Oakland County Workforce Development Division Manager, at the February 17, 2016 board meeting.  John Almstadt was recognized by the Board for his decades of service to Oakland County and his many accomplishments during that time.

OAKLAND COUNTY COMMISSIONERS CELEBRATE OAKLAND COUNTY PARKS 50TH ANNIVERSARY
