Commissioner Gershenson Selected as Taubman Fellow

On July 11, 2011, Oakland County Commissioner Marcia Gershenson began walking the halls of Harvard University, as a member of a select group of elected officials participating in the prestigious Taubman Fellows program.  She joined Senior Executives in State and Local Government from across the nation.

The Taubman Company’s Fellowship for Executive Excellence program gives Commissioner Gershenson the opportunity to learn from the leading representatives in management and public sector leadership.

Since being elected to the Oakland County Board of Commissioners in 2004, Commissioner Gershenson has been instrumental in creating many programs which have improved the quality of life for Oakland County residents. She continues to seek solutions for sharing essential services among communities within Oakland County.  Her initiatives include the formation of the Women’s Advisory Commission for Oakland County, supporting the micro loan program to help entrepreneurs and small business grow and stay in Michigan, strengthening road funding for communities, increasing and making services available to area veterans’ families, as well as supporting the Healthy Oakland Partnership initiatives.  These are only a few of her many contributions to Oakland County and its residents.
Commissioner Gershenson is the first female Commissioner from Oakland County’s Board to be selected as a Taubman Fellow and joins only two former Oakland County Commissioners ever selected for this distinguished honor.

Oakland County leaders recognize the significance of Commissioner Gershenson’s accomplishment by expressing the following.

“Marcia Gershenson is a dedicated commissioner who continues to work in the best interest of Oakland County and her constituents. I am pleased about her selection,” stated Oakland County Board Chairman Michael J. Gingell.

“I am really excited about this opportunity and I look forward to bringing new strategies back to Oakland County,” stated Commissioner Marcia Gershenson.

Commissioner Marcia Gershenson (D) represents the 17th District which consists of the communities of West Bloomfield, Bloomfield Township, Beverly Hills, Franklin, Birmingham, Bingham Farms and Southfield Township. She is serving her fourth term on the Board.
