Child Abuse & Neglect Prevention Month
On March 30, 2017, the Oakland County Board of Commissioners joined with CARE House to recognize April as Child Abuse & Neglect Prevention Month. Commissioner Shelley Goodman Taub presented CARE House with a proclamation honoring their 40 years of child abuse prevention efforts, and board meeting attendees gathered with Commissioners to create an indoor pinwheel garden to raise awareness about the critical issue of child abuse and neglect prevention.
Board Honors Former U.S. Attorney Barbara L. McQuade
the March 30, 2017 board meeting, the Oakland County Board of Commissioners honored former United States Attorney of the Eastern District of Michigan, Barbara L. McQuade. After being appointed by President Barack Obama, McQuade took the oath of office on January 4, 2010 and made history as the first woman to ever hold that distinguished post. Commissioner Bill Dwyer presented McQuade with a proclamation recognizing her countless professional achievements and years of exemplary service as U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Michigan.

Oakland County Farm Bureau Celebrates National Agriculture Week
At the March 15, 2017 board meeting, the Oakland County Farm Bureau brought in baskets displaying a wide variety of Oakland County agricultural products, and Commissioners Bob Hoffman, Christine Long and Thomas F. Orchard Lake St. Mary's Wins MHSAA Division 3 Championship
On March 15, 2017 the Oakland County Board of Commissioners honored Orchard Lake St. Mary's 2016-2017 Varsity Football team, the Eaglets, for winning the Michigan High School Athletic Association's Division 3 Championship game at Ford Field on November 26, 2016. Board Chairman Michael J. Gingell presented the proclamation to the coaches and players in attendance.

PACE Energy Program Symposium
On Monday, March 6, 2017, the Oakland County Department
of Economic Development & Community Affairs, in partnership with the
Oakland County Board of Commissioners and Lean & Green Michigan, hosted
an informational meeting for local officials and economic development
professionals regarding the Property Assessed Clean Energy (PACE) program. Passed unanimously by the Board of Commissioners in November 2016, the program promotes increased energy efficiency and renewable energy systems across
Oakland County. Board Chairman Michael J. Gingell welcomed attendees and made opening remarks before introducing Andy Levin, President of Lean & Green Michigan.

Board Honors 2017 Michigan Superintendent of the Year
On February 15, 2017 the Oakland County Board of Commissioners honored
Dr. Robert Glass, Superintendent of Bloomfield Hills schools. Dr. Glass was selected as the 2017 Michigan Superintendent of the Year by the Michigan Association of School Administrators.

Board Honors Former Macomb County BOC Chairman David Flynn
On January 26, 2017 the Oakland County Board of Commissioners honored David Flynn, former Chairman of the Macomb County Board of Commissioners. When he was elected in 2006 at age 20, David was the youngest Commissioner ever to serve in Macomb County, and went on to become the youngest Chairman ever to serve when elected to that role in January 2015.

2017 Inaugural Ceremony
On January 11, 2017 the new Oakland County Board of Commissioners was sworn in at their first official board meeting. The Inaugural event included an invocation by Chief Circuit Court Judge Nanci J. Grant and a performance of the National Anthem by award-winning teen vocalist Adele Houle. Oakland County Sheriff Michael J. Bouchard led the Pledge of Allegiance with the participation of the Oakland County Sheriff's Color Guard. Please click here for more photos from the event.
