​​​​​​​Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program

The CDBG Program strengthens neighborhoods by supporting local revitalization, home im​provement and public services for senior citizens, low income persons and families, disadvantaged youth, and disabled residents throughout most of Oakland County.* Funding is provided through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to keep communities sound, attractive and economically viable.

Types of Projects that Benefit Individuals or Households

  • Minor Home Repair
  • Housing Rehabilitation
  • Programs Serving Senior Citizens, Disabled Persons, Youth, Abused Persons and Children
  • Transportation and Emergency Services

Types of Projects that Benefit Qualified Areas

  • Water, Sewer, Street and Sidewalk Improvements
  • Parks, Recreation Facilities and Senior Citizen Centers
  • Clearance and Demolition
  • Code Enforcement
  • Removal of Architectural Barriers
  • Fire Protection Facilities

Communities that participate in the program receive a formula share of funds to undertake eligible activities that best meet community needs.  Citizens are encouraged to get involved in the local decision-making process.  Community projects are found in the Community Home & Improvement Division

*The City of Lake Angelus, City of Farmington Hills, City of Southfield, Novi Township, City of Royal Oak, Southfield Township, Waterford Township and the Village of Bingham Farms do not participate in the CDBG Program.

Davis B​​acon Act​

Under the Davis Bacon Act contractors and sub-contractors on federally-supported construction and public works projects must pay their workers local prevailing wages and fringe benefits.
