Planning Services - Land Use, Zoning & Policy

​​​One of the primary functions of the Oakland County Planning Division is to assist with the land use and zoning functions of our local communities. In this capacity, our customers are typically local governments and planning consultants.  Our staff maintains land use maps and statistics, which are available online.  We also provide staff reviews to the County's Coordinating Zoning Committee.​​

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Our mission​ is to prepare and provide land use, zoning and master plan information and reviews to Oakland County communities to enhance their coordination in land use decision-making.​​

​​Existing and Future Land Use Maps and Statistics

Oakland County compiles existing and future land use statistics for the county as a whole and for each community using generalized Land Use D​efiniti​ons​. The following is a list of pro​​ducts presently available.

Networking and continuing education are important to Oakland County. Whether you are an elected or appointed official, a staff planner, a business owner, or an engaged citizen, we can help you find the training that's right for you.​

​​​Plann​ing and Zoning Training

The Michigan Association of Planning (MAP) offers a number of workshops throughout the year targeted towards increasing the knowledge of those interested in planning and zoning issues in their community. In conjunction with MAP, Oakland County provides training at o​ur conference facility for Oakland County communities.
