NEWS RELEASE April 12, 2021 - Royal Oak Downtown Development Authority Earns National Revitalization Award

MOSC AwardOakland County congratulates the Royal Oak Downtown Development Authority on winning a national award for their innovative programs to help their small businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“I am so very thankful to work in such a wonderful community as Royal Oak. Today, we received a national Main Street Forward award for our work to provide relief and recovery for small businesses in downtown Royal Oak during the pandemic, which included a grant program that disbursed $1.1 million to 92 downtown businesses. Additionally, we established a digital gift card program that has had almost a $1 million impact on the local economy.

Special thanks to Main Street Oakland County, who had our back during the difficult moments of designing the programs and providing technical assistance dollars to help us increase our capacity to administer and implement such a complex program in such a short time. We were one of six recipients nationally—and the only Michigan community to be recognized.

Congratulations to all the recipients who have done such wonderful work around the country and thanks to all of the Michigan downtowns who have worked so hard to accomplish so much for so many in these difficult times.”
