Walled Lake School District
Phillip Pittman is the principal of
Keith Elementary School in the Walled Lake School District. Since he became
principal in 2011, Keith Elementary has received recognition and numerous
awards including ranking in the 92nd-98th Percentile in Michigan's Top-to-Bottom
Rankings. It was designated a “High-Performing Reward School,” earned the
Michigan Green School: Evergreen Award (Highest Distinction) three times and it
was named the Best and Brightest in Wellness Elite Award Winner (Top School in
State) for the past two years. The school was recognized for having the
top-selling Scholastic Book Fair in Michigan and for raising the most money
ever collected in the Walled Lake School District, for the 20th Jump Rope for
Heart event supporting the American Heart Association.
Pittman was nominated for the MEMSPA Region 7 Principal Honor award. In 2012 he
received the Scholar of Excellence for Department of Leadership and Counseling
at Eastern Michigan University. He was named Rookie of the Year at North Farmington
High School as assistant principal in 2010 and Teacher of the Year in 2009. For
several years Pittman volunteered as soccer coach with Team Farmington Special
Olympics, where he received the volunteer award in 2011. He worked with disabled
children and adults, including his son. Pittman received his undergrad,
graduate and doctoral degrees from Eastern Michigan University.
