Royal Oak Recycling
Ed Mamou is vice president of Royal Oak Recycling, one of the largest independent recycling facilities in the United States. He works towards accomplishing his professional goals of diverting recyclables out of the waste stream and educating customers on the importance of zero landfill and recycling systems/collection. Royal Oak Recycling has been recognized as Kimberly Clark Supplier of the Year by Owensboro, KY in 2011 and 2012.
In 2011 Ed opened the Root Restaurant & Bar to make a difference in the Michigan food scene, promoting fresh ingredients and responsible sourcing statewide. Since opening, The Root has garnered regional and national attention, including being named “2012 Restaurant of the Year” by The Detroit Free Press; an episode on The Cooking Channel and numerous write-ups and events. Ed grows and promotes local, seasonal, from-scratch cuisine at The Root. He believes it is an important mission, not only for the local economy but for healthy living.
He received his undergraduate degree from Kalamazoo College and graduate degree from the University of California - San Diego. Ed has been an active committee member of the Oakland County Solid Waste District since 2013.
