Lloyd is dedicated to fostering diversity and increasing access to college for underrepresented students. A member of OCC's Diversity and Inclusion Committee, Lloyd was responsible for starting the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day Convocation, which brought such keynote speakers as civil rights icon Dr. Joseph Lowery, Dr. Michael Eric Dyson and Sonia Sanchez.
Lloyd also founded the Man-Up Male Mentoring Initiative, a weekend program in partnership with Southfield Public Schools that allows high school students to earn two college credits while developing academic and personal skills. Additionally, Lloyd was involved with the development of the Oakland Early College initiative, which is a partnership with Oakland Schools that awards high school students their diploma and an associate's degree in five years.
Outside OCC, Lloyd is an active member of the community. He is past president of the Michigan College Personnel Association, trustee of the Boys and Girls Club of South Oakland County, vice-chairman of the American Red Cross of Southeast Michigan and president of the Southfield Rotary Club.
