Travis Walter, 33

Travis Walter Background
Travis graduated from Oakland University in 2002 with a Bachelor's degree in Performing Arts.  He was then hired by Meadow Brook Theatre as an actor in the 2002-2003 season.  He worked on and off several stages in the region over the years and has continued to grow in his love of the arts by taking an administration position at MBT.  He enjoys the challenge of directing shows to entertain the community in Oakland County and has been honored with the 2009 Wilde Award for directing the "Best Musical" in southeast Michigan, Beyond the Rainbow,  the Michigan Premiere of a musical about the life of Judy Garland and the 2010 Wilde Award for directing the "Best Comedy" in southeast Michigan, Boeing-Boeing, the Michigan professional premiere of the comedic classic.

Current Position
In May 2010, Travis was promoted to Artistic Director of Meadow Brook Theatre, Michigan's largest producing professional theatre, at the age of 31.  And thus, he is the youngest artistic director ever in any LORT (League of Resident Theatres) theatre in the United States.  As such, he has been able to revitalize the theatre and its patrons creating a new exciting atmosphere.  He has created new programming, a children's series, a longer season, and has responded to the audience's need for fresh, new, work straight from Broadway.  Under his guidance, MBT now produces a season of mostly Michigan premieres and North American premieres and all of the shows are "Made in Michigan" using local talent to build the sets, costumes, props and many local actors.  The audience has responded very well and attendance has been rising.  In a short time he has personally directed 11 of the top 15 grossing shows at the theatre since 2003.

Charity/Community/Board Involvement
Travis created the "Give a Kid a Seat Program" at Meadow Brook Theatre, where every year they choose children's charities and invite them to the annual holiday offering of A Christmas Carol.  MBT donates hundreds of tickets every year to charities such as Wigs4Kids, Homes for Autism, Children's Village, etc. and ask that they bring the people they serve to a free night of theatre.  This allows many people who may not have the ability to come see live theatre share in this wonderful sold-out classic and start their holiday season with smiles.  He is also a Founding Member and Board Member of META (Michigan Equity Theatre Alliance).  An organization that seeks to garner new patrons for professional theatre in the area and allows for easier collaboration between organizations.

Oakland County Involvement
Travis is continually providing speaking engagements throughout Oakland County.  Recently, he has been a guest speaker for Rotary clubs, Optimist clubs, Meadow Brook Woman's Club and many other community groups. Most recently he has been teaching playwriting workshops in local schools.
