Kevin McDaniel was sworn in as a City Councilman for Auburn Hills on November 3rd, 2007 at the age of 28. Most recently re-elected to his second four-year term on November 8th, 2011, claiming the highest votes of all candidates. Kevin grew up in Auburn Hills and is the fourth generation from his family living in the community. He and his wife Erika are raising the fifth generation, their three-year-old daughter, Addison and one year old son, Kailer.
Kevin graduated from Oakland University in Auburn Hills with a Bachelor's degree in business, concentrating in Information Technology. His dedication to public service spans back to 2003, when he served as a Police Officer for the City. One of Kevin's greatest honors while working as an Auburn Hills Police Officer was being selected as one of four officer's from Auburn Hills to represent Oakland County. This team traveled with several other local departments to New Orleans where they assisted the NOPD during Hurricane Katrina relief efforts.
Prior to being elected to City Council, Kevin also served on the City's Tax Increment Finance Authority, which has been a major financial force in implementing the city's long-range development plans and has helped lead and promote the city's successful growth.
During Kevin's first term, he was a leader on the Public Safety Advisory Committee championing upgrades in Advance Life Support services. Since then, he has also served on various other committees within the community. Perhaps, most notable was his role as the Council liaison on the Tax Incentive Review Committee. His work while serving on this committee has been a major driving force, which has helped boost development within Auburn Hills and the County. Kevin contributes much of this success to the committee's dedication to revamp the city's tax incentive policy. They have made changes which have helped increase commercial rehabilitation projects, improving key areas of the city, and eliminated restrictions that have allowed them to be more competitive in attracting new businesses. This committee has helped bring the city's office space vacancy rate to below 4%, compared to 18% in the region.
As a member of the Auburn Hills Leadership Team, he has also partnered with his Council colleagues and Administration on various other economic development projects that have brought over 4,500 jobs to the city, helping lead Oakland County and Michigan out of this recession. Being an OU alum, he has been passionately helping bridge the gap between Oakland University and his City, advocating for the city's largest and most active collaborative project, a student housing complex with construction currently underway in the city's Downtown. Kevin is committed to advancing engagement between City leaders, residents, private investors, students and OU.
While serving the residents of Auburn Hills, Kevin is also employed by the world's largest research based pharmaceutical company, Pfizer. As a healthcare consultant he is responsible for the Detroit metro area territory, educating and helping hundreds of physicians bring innovative treatments to their patients. Kevin was recently honored as one of Pfizer's top employees; receiving Pfizer's most coveted "Summit Award".
