Background and Current Position
Just 31 years old, Bernie Fuhs, a Novi resident, is a proven problem solver, leader and entrepreneur.
Bernie is an attorney with the law firm of Butzel Long and is already regarded as one of the top business litigation attorneys in Metro Detroit and Oakland County, having scored numerous victories for his clients, including successfully defending a publicly-traded electronics corporation on a $40,000,000 contract action and obtaining numerous injunctions on behalf of his clients ranging from Fortune 500 companies to start-up businesses. He also currently represents corporate investors who had been defrauded in the Bernard Madoff Ponzi scheme and are now involved in lawsuits with one of the main feeder funds to the Ponzi scheme. He is regarded as a leading expert on non-compete and trade secret law, having litigated and counseled clients on such matters in all 50 states and having authored, contributed, and presented to many national and local publications and business organizations regarding the same. He also serves on the firm's Diversity and Retention committee and the Recruiting committee.
Bernie is also one of the youngest college and high school basketball television analysts in the country, having worked for ESPN, the Horizon League Network and the Michigan High School Athletic Association and calling upon his experiences as a college basketball player at the University of Detroit-Mercy.
In addition to this honor, Bernie was recently named to Crain's Detroit Business' 2012 Class of "40 under 40," which honors "the best and brightest in Southeast Michigan who have made their marks in business before age 40." He was also selected as a 2012 Business Litigation Top Lawyer by DBusiness magazine and named to the 2011 and 2012 Michigan Super Lawyers' Rising Star Lists. Community and Oakland County Involvement
Bernie is also very active in the community. He is a member of the current Leadership Oakland class (LOXXIII) and the Macomb-Oakland University INCubator Business Advisory Board. He also serves on the Board of Directors for both the University of Detroit-Mercy Titan Club (Athletic Club) and the School of Law Alumni Association, as well as having served on the UDM Dick Vitale Court Fundraising Committee. Bernie recently participated in the Detroit Lock-Up for the Muscular Dystrophy Association and was one of the top five fundraisers for the event. He is also a member of the State Bar of Michigan, the Detroit Metropolitan Bar Association, the American Bar Association - Employment Rights and Responsibilities Section (Non-Compete and Trade Secret Subgroup), and the Detroit Athletic Club.
